Dolly Toy Company
A.K.A. Dolly Folding Kite and Toy Company
Known today as Dolly, Inc.
Dolly, Incorporated
Fibro Novelties
Dayton, Ohio
1923-present

H. B. Holtvoigt, his two sons and daughter started “The Dolly Folding Kite and Toy Company” with their first product being a practical folding kite. The new kite had a lot of competition and the venture failed. In 1934, they changed the name to Dolly Toy Company sending their product in the direction of inexpensive toys and novelties. You can reference a brief history by going to www.dolly.com/retro.asp. The company is best known for their Christmas houses, kites and nursery products. The majority of these fiberboard toys were designed with a cart to be filled with candy or toys. In the mid to late 1930’s, Dolly Toy Company ventured into a line of inexpensive toys and novelties, calling the line Fibro Toys. Most of the toys under the name Fibro were made from paperboard and the price ranged from $.10 to $.50 each. During this period of time, the Dolly’s name was found only on kites and Christmas houses. Look under the Fibro chapter to see these toys.

Dolly made for many years wall hangings that a parent would use to decorate a child's room. The most sought after wall hangings feature Disney Characters. The value of the wall hangings is limited.

Newer Dolly pull toys made with 8-ply cardboard in the 1950's are very similar to the 8-ply cardboard toys made by the Toy Kraft company. When no label is on an 8-ply cardboard toy, we attribute the toy to Toy Kraft. See the chapter on Toy Kraft for similar toys.
