| Rick Young of Prancing Horse Antiques has brought out this fabulous automated dancing toy. Thomas. N & James N. Crow of Mott Haven, New York were granted patent number 40,740 on Dec 1, 1863 on certain features of this toy. The example shown here is marked with this patent date. They may have made a series of toys with different figures on it as they refer to making it with a "negro or any other human figure" in the patent. This one has a young "negro" dressed in a military-like suit. Its exact date of manufacture is unknown but likely shortly after its patent date. The company name under which they made or distributed the toys is not known to us. |
