Jaymar Specialty Company
Brooklyn, New York

1920’s – 1990

Louis Marx’s father, Jacob Marx along with Jacob’s other son, David, and daughter, Rose, founded Jaymar Specialty Company. Marx and Jaymar were created to go hand in hand with Jaymar producing wooden toys while Marx used metal and tin. Jaymar Specialty Company is known for their line of comic character wood jointed figures they produced in the 1930’s until the 1950’s and also for some very unique and colorful Disney toys. In 1946, Louis Marx Company started operations in Japan and by 1952, had factories in ten countries. We believe that is also when Jaymar started utilizing low cost overseas manufacturing. Some of Jaymar’s toys are also marked with name MarJay. Jaymar Specialty Company, still family owned, continued production in the United States and overseas until they closed their doors in 1990.

Fun Fact: Some confuse Linemar with Jaymar. Louis Marx Company owned the Linemar label, which were used for his low cost, mostly plastic, Hong Kong produced toys.
